As I sit down to write this in my head I’m trying to write a blog on exercise that will engage and provide useful information to you.  I haven’t written one on exercise for a little while so my head says ‘just write a short and simple piece on exercise’.

  • What are some effective exercise strategies?
  • What are the best exercises to do?
  • What secrets can I share that will make your results easier or better?

But the same response keeps coming back:

The best or most effective anything is all-dependent on why you’re doing it

What is it that you are actually trying to achieve?

Weight loss, muscle gain, muscle tone, improved performance, better health, better sleep ALL require different forms of exercise.

Yes, you can get spin-off benefits (if you train to gain muscle you’ll probably sleep better), but in a world where time is precious who wants to take the second best approach?

You want to know that you are taking the most effective action each and every time.

And the good news is that this part can be kept relatively simple.

In the table below I have tried to list the 3 most important areas to address on for a number of different goals.

There is of course some scope for discussion on these points. It is not an exact science but having clarity on exactly what you are trying to achieve and thinking clearly about how best to achieve that will maximise the results that you get and the impact of the work that you do.

Over the coming weeks and months I will follow up on this article and discuss why each goal has those specific areas to address.
