We are delighted to announce our December client of the month…..
Vivien started with us 4 months ago with a plethora of health issues. She had been diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome. This disease is a rapid-onset muscle weakness caused by the immune system damaging the peripheral nervous system. The weakness can take up to two weeks to reach maximum severity. After that period it starts to plateau out and the individual can start to gain back some of that lost strength – This was the job Vivien had entrusted to us. Along with the strength loss the muscle weakness caused a lack of movement and in turn Vivien had put on a lot of weight making everyday tasks like walking up stars incredibly difficult. This was another major reason that Vivien decided to come and work with us.
“I believe my health was getting worse. My weight had increased and even simple tasks such as walking meant my breathing was very laboured”
The initial assessment flagged up various muscle imbalances which we was expecting. A stretch/strengthen and mobility programme was then designed from the findings. However before we could get to Dr. Movement we needed to address Dr Diet and get Vivien to a good enough physical point where she would be able to work with Dr Movement and really feel the benefits.
Having looked at Vivien’s food diary we identified the lack of fresh food in her diet. A lot of her intake was microwaved processed food, which as we know is empty calories. We also had Vivien complete an elimination diet which aims to rid the body of any inflammatory foods i.e Gluten and dairy. Within a month of fresh food and no Gluten or dairy Vivien had lost 10lbs. more importantly however was that she was beginning to undo 30 years of habit related to food. – Get in from work, shove something in the microwave etc. 4 months later Vivien has lost just over 2 stone.
Once the weight started to shift we got into Dr Movement with a corrective exercise and strengthening program. The main focus here was to stretch any tight muscles and strengthen any weak muscles. In The midst of being diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome Vivien had a fall and broke her ankle, therefore a lot of what we have done has also been around rehabilitating her ankle. We also worked a lot on Primal patterns. Movements a person does in everyday life. (Squatting, lunging, twisting, bending, pushing and pulling).
“I feel like my old self again, my breathing is 100% better and I feel better in myself”
Dr Quiet and Dr Happiness were easy with Vivien. We looked at improving her quality of sleep and spoke about her passions, future goals and what she would like to be doing after she retires in 9 months time.
Vivien has made incredible progress since she has started working with us. She has lost a lot of weight, her range of motion has increased and she is a lot stronger both physically and mentally.
We at JT Ethos are incredibly proud of the effort she has put in and she is seeing all that hard work pay off. Well done!
Vivien Griffiths you are our client of the Month for December!!
